Origin and Cause Dresses for the Cause

October is Breast Cancer awareness month, and this year, Origin and Cause went pink for the cause.  On October 24th, our offices supported Dress for the Cause to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

Here are just a few reasons Dress for Cause is so important to us:

  • 1 in 9 Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime
  • This year an estimated 24, 400 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer
  • Approximately 14 Canadian women die of breast cancer every day
  • Of all estimated new cancers in women, breast cancer cases make up an estimated 26%
  • For every 4 men diagnosed with breast cancer 1 will die

Breast cancer affects too many Canadians, and the Breast Cancer Society of Canada works hard to find a cure, partnering with organizations including Sunnybrook Hospital and the Regional Cancer Centre in London, ON.

This year, we proudly donned our pink and raised over $600 between staff donations and Origin and Cause’s matching.

shower redevelopment project

Origin and Cause for Others is currently supporting the Hamilton General Hospital Burn Unit’s shower redevelopment project, raising funds for a hydrotherapy shower system. This project is vital for the Burn Unit patients’ care, recovery and dignity. A new hydrotherapy shower will be a valuable addition to the Burn Unit, and a positive enhancement to ensure that the Burn Unit continues to offer the best possible burn care to all burn patients in an accessible and comfortable environment.

We hope you all enjoyed the experience as much as we did. From the tour of the Burn Unit to the one-of-a-kind walk on the helipad, we hope you saw the value of your donor investment. It was our pleasure to meet you and your fellow representatives to honour your support.

We especially want to express our thanks to Pat Mesley for her tireless efforts organizing the many fundraising events supported by your employees and patrons. It was truly heartwarming to see that over the years your organization has raised $53,982 in total through diverse events in support of the special equipment needs of HGH’s Burn Unit. Your most recent donations have been designated to one of the hospital’s highest priority needs, the redevelopment of the shower and hydrotherapy space in the Burn Unit.

You and your staff know intimately that burns are a traumatic experience. Your efforts have truly made a difference in the lives of our patients. Our highly trained staff teams, through your support, is able to offer the specialized burn care needed to minimize the severity of the injury and help patients move towards recovery.

Thank you again for your past and continued support of HGH’s Burn Unit and medical team. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.
