Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgy from Glasgow University and specializes in failure analysis.

He has been licensed as a professional engineer for over 40 years and has been qualified as an expert witness in all levels of court.

Tom is a life member of the American Society for Metals and has over 35 years of experience in failure analysis investigation.

In his career, Tom has investigated failures of many different types of equipment such as industrial boilers, pipelines, cranes, pressure vessels, automotive components, household appliances, and furniture. He also has experience dealing with a wide variety of materials, other than metals, including plastics, ceramics, glass...

Tom has attended several courses and seminars on topics relating to failure analysis, and has appeared as a guest lecturer at various technical institutions.
